Elements

What does nature mean to us? Beyond our initial sensory engagement with it, there is something that touches our own deepest, human nature, and brings us to a state where ideas, preferences and distinctions meld into a higher sense of unity.

Here, I try to capture this essence, filtering away as many constituent parts as possible – including colour, extension, and context – to focus on the raw, elemental aspects of nature and our responses to them.

In the Isha Upanishad it is said that “what has come out of the whole is also whole”. “Even a fraction of the Supreme Being is whole and complete by itself.” (C. Rajagopalachari, Ramayana, 1989)
